Guidelines for Submitting Artwork and Gallery
Show Proposals To TCAN
TCAN receives numerous inquiries from artists about having their artwork considered
for exhibition in the Gallery. We feature emerging artists as well as established
artists, particularly from the Boston MetroWest area.
The process starts by an Artist contacting the TCAN Gallery Director using the above
email link. Photos,
slides, or
jpg, tif,
or
pdf copies
of
the artwork, along with bio, resume, and artist statement should be sent to
the TCAN Gallery Director at 14 Summer St., Natick, MA 01760. Please include
a
cushioned, stamped, addressed return envelope.

Artists' Exhibition Guide for Summer Street Exhibitions
TCAN's mission is to bring people together through the arts. The goal of our visual arts program is to bring people together to appreciate the work of the most accomplished artists within the region. The work chosen for exhibitions at TCAN is
seen by thousands of area residents during evening performances and daytime
during gallery/business hours. Gallery announcements are included in TCAN's Program Guide and TCAN News, which are sent to over 10,000 members and patrons. The visual arts volunteer team works to schedule exhibitions featuring artwork that
is deserving of this visibility and recognition.
PLEASE NOTE that TCAN's visual arts program is self-supporting, restricting the resources available for support and promotion. |
The exhibition space is
also a venue for concerts, theater, and classes. Artists are advised
that occasionally it may be necessary to make accommodations for other events
such as removal of one or more paintings or hanging a backdrop over one or
more paintings.
Our responsibilities to each other:
Membership - As no exhibitors fee is charged to the artist, we strongly urge all artists exhibiting at TCAN to
become
contributing TCAN members, and participate as volunteer members of our visual arts program
staff.
Content - Exhibits are open to the general public, including
children
of
all ages who attend daily theatre classes in our shared space. While we recognize
and
defend
the
right
of
an
artist
to make a controversial statement, TCAN Executive Director reserves the
right
to
decline
the
exhibition
of
any
work at our discretion.
Publicity - Artists are solely responsible for all promotion, mailings, invitations and other marketing activities to encourage attendance. Invitations, postcards, flyers and other collateral should include the TCAN
logo and the following information: The Center for Arts
in Natick, 14 Summer St., Natick, MA 01760, Hours: Tues-Sat
12 Noon - 6 PM. Artist collateral may be placed in the lobby during the period
of your exhibit.
Price List - Artist must provide several typed copies of a current price list for
all pieces offered for sale.
Hanging and Take-Down - Hanging and take-down of the artwork is the responsibility of the artist. TCAN may assist based on availability of volunteers. Dates for hanging and take-down of art must be coordinated and confirmed by Gallery Director. All artwork
must be prepared for hanging prior to the showing. TCAN's Gallery Director and Executive Director must provide final approval for placement of all artwork in the facility.
Sales - With few exceptions, artwork in the
exhibit must be for sale. During the exhibit, all purchase inquiries
and sales must be directed to and handled by TCAN Box Office Manager. TCAN will collect
payment, including 5% sales tax, and remit a check, net of commission,
to the artist. For Artists who are TCAN members, TCAN receives 25% of the sale
price
of artwork sold during or subsequently as a result of the exhibition.
For non-members TCAN receives 30% commission.
Signage - Artists are responsible
for labeling all artwork with appropriate and professional looking signage. Labels may include price information.
Receptions - Coordination of an art reception is the responsibility of the artist, and must be scheduled with the Gallery Director subject to availability of the space.
Artists are responsible for all event promotion and marketing, refreshments, set-up and clean-up. No alcohol may be served without approval of Executive Director. No live musical performances may be held in conjunction with the reception without prior approval of the Executive Director. Acoustic solo or duo instrumental performances ONLY please.
Community education - Artist talks and/or slide presentations are
highly encouraged.
Dates - The artist must coordinate with TCAN Gallery Director to
schedule hanging and striking dates, exhibition beginning and ending dates, and
artist's reception and talk dates.
Insurance - TCAN maintains $12,500 insurance coverage for the Summer Street Gallery, $2,500 for The Bakery on the Common, and $2,000 for the Middlesex Bank main office.
