Ania Gilmore finds inner peace in Japanese Sumi-e where she embraces the simplicity, quietness and the white spaces that are the hardest to paint, but necessary to rest the eye on. Born in Poland, one might say of Ania, "What is a Polish woman doing painting Japanese strokes?". She replies by saying: “It is very much like the Japanese artist who plays Chopin, just because of the delight coming out of such notes. The peace that I was looking for arrived quietly and unexpectedly; Ink Gardening.”
