Join Opera del West as they perform Matt Aucoin’s “Second Nature”, an environmental fable that describes our earth in 100 years.

This work follows 2 young dreamers through their exploration of what global warming has created, and how they convince the adults around them to make it right. Aucoin describes the production as a dystopian fairy tale that tells a reverse Garden of Eden story: In the future, humans have so destroyed the environment that they have moved into synthetic, zoo-like habitats. An ape next door to two kids (played by adult singers) tempts them with forbidden fresh fruit, and they then set out to explore the outside world.

This lyrical contemporary opera will be sung in English by Opera del West favorites, stage directed by Rebecca Miller and music directed by Eve Budnick.
